Structured Cabling Technician Job Description

NETCO is a growing electrical and cabling contracting company in Southeastern New Brunswick looking for a Structured Cabling Technician. This role includes installing commercial voice, data, fiber optic, CCTV, and security cabling systems for our customers. Ideal candidate has 5 years of experience in the industry working with copper and fiber optics following industry standards for installation, termination, testing, and labeling.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Must be an exceptional team player and with good communication skills; oral and written.

  2. Quality workmanship to meet NETCO's standards.

  3. Proficient in proper installation, termination and testing of solutions installed.

  4. Experience in working with copper (UTP, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a) and fiber optic media types, (MMF, SMF, 50-micron, 62.5 micron), industry standards and applications, and use cases (e.g., Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SONET, TDM).

  5. Ability to install cable runs, patch panels and cross connects.

  6. Install various types of raceways and cable tray, including conduit.

  7. Operate company copper and fiber optic testing equipment.

  8. Proficient in trouble shooting, both copper and fiber optic installations (camera & access controls)

  9. Help manage materials, tools, and equipment.

  10. Complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner (timesheets, material, service orders)

  11. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Represent NETCO professionally and be an enthusiastic/ reliable team player.

  • Follow safety rules and requirements.

  • Certified in Belden and/or Panduit an asset.

  • Experience in telephony, security and audio visual is preferred.

  • Must have technical and mechanical aptitude.

  • Great attitude a must.

  • Organized, punctual and motivated self-starter.

  • Must have ability to quickly learn new skills.

  • Proper use of all tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.

  • Must be able to lift 40-50lbs and perform twist and turning movements while working off ladders and lifts.

  • Respond quickly and effectively while multi-tasking.

  • Continually pass required background checks to work on customer sites.

  • Maintain valid driver’s license.
