Senior Estimator Job Description

NETCO is a growing electrical contracting company in Southeastern New Brunswick looking to add an eager Senior Estimator to the team. The electrical estimator’s main role is to prepare estimates for small to large-sized projects using Accubid to produce accurate quotes and bills of material. The estimator should have excellent communication skills which will enable them to build and maintain professional relationships with our customers and vendors. This person should have 5+ years experience quoting projects in the commercial and industrial sectors and a thorough and up to date understanding of the Canadian Electrical Codes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Prepare quotes from electrical drawings and specifications.

  2. Participate in closing bids, bid review meetings, and other job closing related tasks.

  3. Manage scope of work changes.

  4. Prepare detailed material take-offs and labor hour breakdowns for cost analysis.

  5. Communicate with customers and suppliers.

  6. Assist in organizational jobs such as pulling electrical permits and communicating with field personnel and supervision when necessary.

  7. Interpret and apply the necessary standards associated with the Canadian electrical code.

  8. Prepare estimate from quantity take-off on project and complete estimate to computer printout.

  9. Identify parts of project that may be key to making a competitive estimate.

  10. Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

  11. Evaluate possible areas for potential value engineering cost savings.

  12. Prepare detailed listing of material and equipment items for the estimate and to obtain competitive quotes.

  13. Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and be responsible to solicit quotes. Review quotes for completeness and conformance with plans and specs.

  14. Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents.

  15. Draft scope/proposal letters for bid and negotiated projects.

  16. Prior to the issuing of the formal bid package, provide to the Construction Manager a detailed review of scope, technical requirements, and pricing for the estimated bid package.

  17. After the successful bid at project turnover, meet with the Project Managers to fully explain job scope, potential areas of attention and other aspects for the successful transition of the project.

  18. The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing and other duties will be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit.

Requirements?

  • 5+ years past electrical quoting experience.

  • Experience with Accubid or equivalent Quoting Software is mandatory.

  • Bilingualism or multilingualism would be considered an asset.

  • Required to have up to date knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.

  • The ability to read and understand electrical drawings, single line drawings, building blueprints, and specifications.

  • Engineering degree or Electrical Licence and field experience would be considered an asset.

  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating.

  • Ability to estimate all types of projects and to coordinate and supervise group work effort is

  • essential.

  • Ability to identify and meet customers’ needs expectations and requirements.

  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities as necessary.

  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position.

  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others
