In a world where we are able to be connected 24/7, we are now given the opportunity to keep an eye on our homes and offices no matter where in the world we are. Home security cameras give us peace of mind that our homes and belongings are safe even when we are not around. The options for cameras are broad, but when it comes to connecting and powering them, the options narrow.
Category 5 and 6 Ethernet Cabling are what you will need to use to transmit video, and power your security cameras. While they both do the job well, there are advantages to choosing the Cat-6 cabling. Over short distances, Cat-6 outperforms Cat-5 quite handily. By providing over 10x the amount of bandwidth as Cat-5, Cat-6 can transmit 10,000 Mbps of data. Keep in mind that over 165 feet, Cat-6 drops down to 1,000 Mbps, the same as Cat-5.
