There have been few home trends that have changed the game like smart home technology. Being able to control your home security, lighting, and appliances with your smartphone or your voice (how cool!) have made our lives easier. Being able to schedule thermostats, lights, and locks not only helps us save energy but feel safe! What do you need to up your smart home game? Check it out here!
The first thing before we talk about the specifics is picking a platform. Google, Apple, and Amazon all have smart home platforms, and some smart home manufacturers have a separate platform that works with the above. Once you choose one, it’s best to stick with it to avoid headaches.
Smart lights give you the chance to control when lights turn on and off in your home. This means no more having to tell the kids that they didn’t turn off the basement light AGAIN! The first decision to make with smart lights is whether or not you want to deal with a hub. A hub connects the lights to your phone, acting as a go-between to send the signals out. Hub or not, you’ll still control the lights with your phone or voice, but it is an extra cost.
Smart Plugs are fantastic devices that turn just about anything into a smart version of themselves. Easy to control, and easy to install, a smart plug uses existing outlets to power small appliances and devices but can be controlled again via your phone or voice, and can even be set on schedules to turn off and on and specific times.
Smart switches are another option in the world of smart devices that maintain the regular function of a light switch, meaning it can be used manually just like you do now, but also adding in smart functionality that can be controlled through your smartphone or voice control! Smart switches also add functions like timers, schedules, and dimmers.
