With the colder weather already starting to hit us, now is the time to make sure your furnace is ready for winter! A quick self-check and with a little bit of maintenance can help you along the way!
Give it the Once-Over: Stand back and take a look. Make sure any venting pipe is securely fastened. Any drainage tubes should be unkinked. If it’s a gas furnace, smell around the gas line. If you smell rotten eggs, it means the furnace has a gas leak and you should call in the experts.
Check the Wiring: Once the furnace is shut off and open, give the wires connected to the thermostat a light tug to make sure they’re tight and fitted properly.
Do Some Cleaning: Dust, dirt, and debris can build up inside the furnace, causing it to work sub-optimally. Getting that dirt out will make sure that your furnace runs the way it ought to and keep you and your family warm.
Keep Your Filter Clean: A dirty filter causes your furnace to work harder than it needs to heat your home. But keeping the filter clean and new, you can save wear and tear on your furnace, and keep some dollars in your bank account!
Not sure if you’ve got it all done right? Then it’s time to call in a professional to give your furnace a proper look over.
